3D Projection Mapping in Bengaluru
The gap between adequate and excellent 3D projection mapping in Bengaluru is usually preparation: bescom supply in the central business district is serviceable, but the tech parks at whitefield and electronic city run their own captive dg and ups infrastructure regardless, so a town hall inside a campus auditorium is usually on cleaner power than the grid would give. palace grounds and every open venue are fully generated, with a synchronised pair of 200 kva sets as a sensible floor, acoustically enclosed to satisfy kspcb, and a recce that finds the venue's real constraints before quote stage.

Key takeaway
3D Projection Mapping for Bengaluru’s biggest events
Projection mapping starts with a survey, not a storyboard. We photogrammetry-scan or LiDAR-measure the surface — a façade, a stage set, a car, a cake — and build a 3D model that matches the real object within a few centimetres. The projectors are then positioned virtually against that model to check throw ratio, keystone, shadowing from balconies or trees, and whether any part of the surface falls outside the beam. Only once the projector positions are fixed does content production begin, because a mapped animation is authored against a specific camera position and cannot simply be moved later.
The surface is the instrument here — its material, reflectance, depth and the audience's viewing axis decide projector count, angles and whether the illusion reads at all. In Bengaluru that plays out at venues like BIEC, Palace Grounds, Manpho Convention Centre, and across Whitefield, Koramangala, Indiranagar, Electronic City.
Brightness is the engineering constraint that decides the budget. Perceived image brightness depends on lumens, surface area, the reflectance of the material and the ambient light falling on it. Stone and painted plaster reflect perhaps 20 to 35 per cent of what hits them; dark stone far less. A heritage façade of 400 square metres with street lighting nearby can need 100,000 lumens or more in total, which is three or four stacked 30K-class laser projectors per angle. Laser phosphor sources are the standard now because they hold brightness and colour across a run, start instantly and tolerate the dust and heat of an outdoor build far better than lamps.

Equipment we carry
Why Bengaluru chooses Prime AV
- Crews and trucks positioned for fast load-in at Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield and venues in Hebbal and MG Road.
- Ambient readings are taken at the show hour during the survey, and the blackout of specific street and site lights is negotiated and written into the permission before content is budgeted.
- 3D geometry model of the mapped surface with the UV layout
- Working knowledge of Karnataka venue rules, power sanctions and permission timelines.

Local conditions
Producing 3D projection mapping in Bengaluru
Weather & the rig
Mapping is defeated by air as much as by rain — haze, dust and humidity scatter the beam and soften a blend, so brightness headroom is specified against local conditions. At 920m the temperature never forces amplifier derating, which removes a problem most Indian cities have — but it introduces two others. Pre-monsoon and retreating-monsoon evenings in April-May and September-October bring sharp convective storms with 60–70 km/h gusts that arrive inside twenty minutes, so outdoor truss here is engineered for wind, not for rain. And the overnight dew point drop on the plateau leaves consoles, LED faces and connector panels genuinely wet by 5am, which means covers on everything and a warm-up pass before a morning show. Jun–Oct, when both monsoons touch the city and October is the wettest month in the calendar; an open-ground show in that window needs a hard roof rather than a tarpaulin.
Power & redundancy
Stacked 30K-class projectors each draw several kilowatts continuously for the whole run, so projection needs a dedicated, stable, uninterrupted supply rather than a share of the event distribution. BESCOM supply in the central business district is serviceable, but the tech parks at Whitefield and Electronic City run their own captive DG and UPS infrastructure regardless, so a town hall inside a campus auditorium is usually on cleaner power than the grid would give. Palace Grounds and every open venue are fully generated, with a synchronised pair of 200 kVA sets as a sensible floor, acoustically enclosed to satisfy KSPCB.
Permits & noise rules
Mapping a building means permission to light it, towers on public or heritage ground, and usually a negotiated blackout of nearby street lighting for the show window. BBMP issues ground and temporary-structure permission, the city police grant the amplified-sound and assembly licence through the jurisdictional DCP, and KSPCB's noise standards apply with the 10pm cut-off treated as a hard stop rather than a guideline. Drone work is unusually constrained for a city of this size: HAL airport sits inside the urban envelope alongside Kempegowda International, and the defence and research establishments around Jalahalli and Yelahanka add their own restrictions on top.
Load-in & access
Projector towers, ballast and enclosures have to be placed on a precise viewing axis that is often a road or a public plaza, so access and closures drive the build plan. Heavy vehicles are restricted inside the Outer Ring Road during peak hours and multi-axles are kept off key corridors through the day, so a BIEC load-in means dispatching by 4am or losing three hours on Tumakuru Road. Metro construction barricading on ORR and around Hebbal has cut turning radii to the point where a 32-ft trailer cannot make some venue approaches at all. City hotels offer service lifts rather than docks, so cases are specified to fit a 1.2m opening.
Season & booking
Aero India at Yelahanka in odd-numbered Februaries removes essentially all AV inventory and rigging labour from the city for a fortnight. Mysuru Dasara in September-October pulls regional crew and trucks south, Kannada Rajyotsava on 1 November and the Bengaluru Tech Summit week book out conference inventory, and April-May IPL fixtures at Chinnaswamy close the central roads on match evenings. Peak demand runs Sep–Feb.
Crew & dispatch
Own Bengaluru base, which also serves as the dispatch point for Mysuru, Mangaluru, Coimbatore and Hubballi work. Load-in support covers Hebbal, MG Road and the rest of the city.
What it costs here
Rates hold up well here because the buyers are MNC procurement teams who evaluate on specification, insurance cover and SLA rather than on the lowest quote, so a GCC conference carries a real premium over the regional average. What they demand in return is documentation: GST-clean invoicing, crew insurance, method statements and a named technical owner.
Local expectations
Corporate formality is the default. The run of show is locked a week out, teleprompter and confidence monitors are assumed rather than requested, APAC and EMEA dial-ins mean the stream and the record are deliverables with their own sign-off, and simultaneous interpretation turns up more often here than anywhere else in India outside Delhi. A Kannada welcome segment is expected at any public-facing event, and attendee experience teams will audit lectern mic levels and slide legibility from the back row.

On site, the work is warping, blending and masking. Each projector's output is warped onto the surface geometry using a media server — disguise, Pixera or Watchout — with overlap regions of 10 to 20 per cent soft-edge blended so no seam is visible. Masks cut the beam off windows, balconies and anything that must stay dark. Alignment is done at night with the actual content and takes hours, not minutes, and it must be re-checked if a projector is bumped or a tower settles. We lock projector positions with ballasted towers and mark every position so a knocked unit can be returned to alignment rather than re-mapped.

Venues
Where we work in Bengaluru
| Venue | Capacity | Production note |
|---|---|---|
| BIEC | Several lakh square feet across halls, each taking a few thousand seated | Clear height and drive-in access are excellent — a truck can reverse into the hall — but it sits around 25km out on Tumakuru Road, so crew transit and the shuttle plan consume more of the schedule than the build does. |
| Palace Grounds | 10,000-plus across Tripura Vasini and the adjoining grounds | Open ground with no usable house infrastructure: all power is generated, and the city police enforce the 10pm sound cut more literally here than at almost any other large Indian venue, so the run of show is designed backwards from it. |
| Manpho Convention Centre | Up to around 3,000 in the pillarless main hall | The hall itself is a genuinely usable column-free box, but the approach is off a permanently congested stretch of Outer Ring Road with a tight dock, so a 32-ft trailer has to be timed against the traffic rather than the call sheet. |
| Taj Yeshwantpur | Around 1,000 banquet across the ballroom | Hotel service-lift load-in with a height limit, so large LED cabinets and 3m truss have to be substituted or broken down before they reach the building. |
| Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield | Around 1,200 across the convention and ballroom space | Convenient for the Whitefield tech corridor, but the arrival road is one of the city's worst bottlenecks, so inbound trucks need a pre-dawn slot or they lose half a day. |

Risk control
What goes wrong, and how we stop it
What can go wrong
How we prevent it
- What can go wrong
Street lighting or a neighbouring building's floodlights wash the façade and the show looks grey.
How we prevent itAmbient readings are taken at the show hour during the survey, and the blackout of specific street and site lights is negotiated and written into the permission before content is budgeted.
- What can go wrong
Content is authored before projector positions are fixed, so the animation does not sit on the geometry.
How we prevent itContent production does not begin until the projector study is signed off, because the mapping is authored against those exact camera positions.
- What can go wrong
A projector tower settles overnight in soft ground and the whole blend is out by morning.
How we prevent itTowers are built on load-spreading base plates, ballasted, and positions are physically marked so a realignment check before each show takes minutes.
- What can go wrong
Dust and heat in an outdoor enclosure cause thermal shutdown mid-show.
How we prevent itIP-rated enclosures with filtered forced-air cooling, filters changed daily on a multi-night run, and internal temperature logged during rehearsal.
Honest comparison
Is this the right choice for your event?
- Fewer, brighter projectors instead of more unitsOur verdict
Fewer angles means fewer blends and a faster alignment, which is the right trade on a flat surface. Any building with depth, recesses or wings needs multiple angles regardless of total lumens, or the recesses stay dark.
- Architectural lighting instead of mappingOur verdict
For a façade that only needs to look beautiful, uplighting and colour washes cost a fraction, go up in a day and work in light rain. Mapping is for when the building has to perform rather than just glow.
- LED wall instead of projection mappingOur verdict
LED beats projection on brightness, on reliability and in any lit environment. But it cannot map onto an existing building, a car or a cake, and at 400 square metres of heritage façade it is simply unaffordable. If the surface is the story, map it; if you need a rectangle that works in daylight, use LED.
