Multi-Camera Broadcast in Bengaluru
The gap between adequate and excellent multi-camera broadcast in Bengaluru is usually preparation: bescom supply in the central business district is serviceable, but the tech parks at whitefield and electronic city run their own captive dg and ups infrastructure regardless, so a town hall inside a campus auditorium is usually on cleaner power than the grid would give. palace grounds and every open venue are fully generated, with a synchronised pair of 200 kva sets as a sensible floor, acoustically enclosed to satisfy kspcb, and a recce that finds the venue's real constraints before quote stage.

Key takeaway
Broadcast & Multi-Camera for Bengaluru’s biggest events
Multi-camera production is a disciplined signal chain before it is a creative one. Cameras are genlocked to a common reference — tri-level sync for HD and UHD — so that every source is on the same clock and a cut between them is clean rather than a frame of glitch. Signals run on 12G-SDI over coax for short distances and on SMPTE fibre or triax for long camera positions, with camera control units allowing a vision engineer to shade iris, black level and colour matrix remotely from a rack position. That shading is what makes six cameras look like one camera from six angles, which is the difference between a multi-camera production and six separate recordings.
The room sets the camera plan: riser positions for long lenses, pit space for handhelds, jib clearance and whether the lighting rig will allow a usable exposure. In Bengaluru that plays out at venues like BIEC, Palace Grounds, Manpho Convention Centre, and across Whitefield, Koramangala, Indiranagar, Electronic City.
Camera positions are planned against the show, not the room. A typical award night runs a wide lock-off, two long-lens cameras on a riser at the back for presenter close-ups, a handheld or Steadicam in the pit for the walk-up, a jib for movement and reveals, and PTZ units in positions no operator can occupy. Everything is cut live by a director on a switcher — Ross, Blackmagic ATEM Constellation or a Sony — with the camera operators on intercom receiving frame instructions. A talkback system from Riedel or Clear-Com is non-negotiable: a multi-camera production without reliable comms is just hopeful.

Equipment we carry
Why Bengaluru chooses Prime AV
- Crews and trucks positioned for fast load-in at Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield and venues in Sarjapur Road and Whitefield.
- Every camera is shaded from the rack by a vision engineer under the actual stage lighting, and the match is re-checked after any significant lighting change.
- Isolated camera recordings for every position
- Working knowledge of Karnataka venue rules, power sanctions and permission timelines.

Local conditions
Producing multi-camera broadcast in Bengaluru
Weather & the rig
Cameras, lenses and fibre connectors are the equipment least tolerant of moisture and dust, and condensation on a lens moving between a cold control room and a humid outdoor pit costs minutes of show time. At 920m the temperature never forces amplifier derating, which removes a problem most Indian cities have — but it introduces two others. Pre-monsoon and retreating-monsoon evenings in April-May and September-October bring sharp convective storms with 60–70 km/h gusts that arrive inside twenty minutes, so outdoor truss here is engineered for wind, not for rain. And the overnight dew point drop on the plateau leaves consoles, LED faces and connector panels genuinely wet by 5am, which means covers on everything and a warm-up pass before a morning show. Jun–Oct, when both monsoons touch the city and October is the wettest month in the calendar; an open-ground show in that window needs a hard roof rather than a tarpaulin.
Power & redundancy
A broadcast chain needs clean, continuous power on its own distribution, because a momentary dip takes down cameras, CCUs, the switcher and the recording all at once. BESCOM supply in the central business district is serviceable, but the tech parks at Whitefield and Electronic City run their own captive DG and UPS infrastructure regardless, so a town hall inside a campus auditorium is usually on cleaner power than the grid would give. Palace Grounds and every open venue are fully generated, with a synchronised pair of 200 kVA sets as a sensible floor, acoustically enclosed to satisfy KSPCB.
Permits & noise rules
Filming brings its own requirements — venue filming rights, audience consent notices, and clearances for any aerial or drone-mounted camera position. BBMP issues ground and temporary-structure permission, the city police grant the amplified-sound and assembly licence through the jurisdictional DCP, and KSPCB's noise standards apply with the 10pm cut-off treated as a hard stop rather than a guideline. Drone work is unusually constrained for a city of this size: HAL airport sits inside the urban envelope alongside Kempegowda International, and the defence and research establishments around Jalahalli and Yelahanka add their own restrictions on top.
Load-in & access
Camera positions need cable routes that cross audience areas and a control room position with sightline and comms, so the cabling plan has to be agreed before seating is set. Heavy vehicles are restricted inside the Outer Ring Road during peak hours and multi-axles are kept off key corridors through the day, so a BIEC load-in means dispatching by 4am or losing three hours on Tumakuru Road. Metro construction barricading on ORR and around Hebbal has cut turning radii to the point where a 32-ft trailer cannot make some venue approaches at all. City hotels offer service lifts rather than docks, so cases are specified to fit a 1.2m opening.
Season & booking
Aero India at Yelahanka in odd-numbered Februaries removes essentially all AV inventory and rigging labour from the city for a fortnight. Mysuru Dasara in September-October pulls regional crew and trucks south, Kannada Rajyotsava on 1 November and the Bengaluru Tech Summit week book out conference inventory, and April-May IPL fixtures at Chinnaswamy close the central roads on match evenings. Peak demand runs Sep–Feb.
Crew & dispatch
Own Bengaluru base, which also serves as the dispatch point for Mysuru, Mangaluru, Coimbatore and Hubballi work. Load-in support covers Sarjapur Road, Whitefield and the rest of the city.
What it costs here
Rates hold up well here because the buyers are MNC procurement teams who evaluate on specification, insurance cover and SLA rather than on the lowest quote, so a GCC conference carries a real premium over the regional average. What they demand in return is documentation: GST-clean invoicing, crew insurance, method statements and a named technical owner.
Local expectations
Corporate formality is the default. The run of show is locked a week out, teleprompter and confidence monitors are assumed rather than requested, APAC and EMEA dial-ins mean the stream and the record are deliverables with their own sign-off, and simultaneous interpretation turns up more often here than anywhere else in India outside Delhi. A Kannada welcome segment is expected at any public-facing event, and attendee experience teams will audit lectern mic levels and slide legibility from the back row.

What happens to the signal afterwards shapes the whole build. If the show feeds IMAG screens, the programme cut must be clean and the switcher has to supply separate outputs for the screens, the stream and the record. If it feeds a broadcaster, their delivery specification governs frame rate, colour space, loudness and the clean feed they require without graphics. If the output is a post-event film, we record isolated camera feeds — ISOs — alongside the programme cut, because an editor with six ISOs can build something the live cut never could. Same-day highlight edits run off a shuttle drive to an on-site edit position while the show is still in progress.

Venues
Where we work in Bengaluru
| Venue | Capacity | Production note |
|---|---|---|
| BIEC | Several lakh square feet across halls, each taking a few thousand seated | Clear height and drive-in access are excellent — a truck can reverse into the hall — but it sits around 25km out on Tumakuru Road, so crew transit and the shuttle plan consume more of the schedule than the build does. |
| Palace Grounds | 10,000-plus across Tripura Vasini and the adjoining grounds | Open ground with no usable house infrastructure: all power is generated, and the city police enforce the 10pm sound cut more literally here than at almost any other large Indian venue, so the run of show is designed backwards from it. |
| Manpho Convention Centre | Up to around 3,000 in the pillarless main hall | The hall itself is a genuinely usable column-free box, but the approach is off a permanently congested stretch of Outer Ring Road with a tight dock, so a 32-ft trailer has to be timed against the traffic rather than the call sheet. |
| Taj Yeshwantpur | Around 1,000 banquet across the ballroom | Hotel service-lift load-in with a height limit, so large LED cabinets and 3m truss have to be substituted or broken down before they reach the building. |
| Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield | Around 1,200 across the convention and ballroom space | Convenient for the Whitefield tech corridor, but the arrival road is one of the city's worst bottlenecks, so inbound trucks need a pre-dawn slot or they lose half a day. |
Crew
Who turns up on show day
- Director
Calls the cut live from the running order, gives frame instructions to operators and decides what the audience sees at every moment.
- Vision engineer
Shades every camera from the rack so six sources match, and owns genlock, colour and signal integrity across the chain.
- Camera operators
Hold and move shots to the director's call, anticipate the action rather than chase it, and protect the frame through a cut.
- Jib and specialist operators
Deliver the movement and reveal shots — jib, Steadicam, dolly — that give a production its production value.
- Replay operator
Marks and plays back moments for IMAG or broadcast, working a few seconds behind live with the director.
- On-site editor
Pulls selects off shuttle drives during the show and delivers a highlight cut the same night.

Risk control
What goes wrong, and how we stop it
What can go wrong
How we prevent it
- What can go wrong
Six cameras each have a different colour balance and the cut looks like six different events.
How we prevent itEvery camera is shaded from the rack by a vision engineer under the actual stage lighting, and the match is re-checked after any significant lighting change.
- What can go wrong
The director loses contact with a camera operator at the critical moment.
How we prevent itA proper intercom system with per-position talkback and a tested backup channel, plus wired comms on fixed positions rather than relying on wireless packs throughout.
- What can go wrong
The post team receives only the programme cut and cannot build the film the client expected.
How we prevent itEvery camera records an isolated feed as standard, and the delivery specification — including ISOs, clean feed and audio stems — is confirmed in writing at T-2 weeks.
- What can go wrong
Media cards are cleared before the offload is verified and footage is lost irrecoverably.
How we prevent itOffload is checksummed and verified against the source before any card is reformatted, with a second copy on separate media before the trucks leave.
Honest comparison
Is this the right choice for your event?
- Hiring an OB van instead of a flypack control positionOur verdict
An OB van is faster to deploy and purpose-built, and right for sport and large televised productions. A flypack built into a control room is cheaper, fits venues a van cannot park at, and is more than adequate up to eight or ten cameras.
- A single-camera record instead of a multi-camera productionOur verdict
A well-operated single camera with good audio is a perfectly respectable record of a conference and costs a fraction. It cannot serve IMAG, cannot cut to a reaction, and gives an editor nothing to work with — so it is a record, not a production.
- PTZ cameras instead of manned positionsOur verdict
PTZ units are excellent in positions no operator can occupy and have become genuinely good. They still cannot anticipate action the way an operator does, and a show cut entirely from PTZs looks subtly late throughout. Mix them in; do not build on them alone.
