Key takeaway

Broadcast & Multi-Camera in Mysuru is quoted against your guest count, venue and run of show. Two price worlds. Dasara and civic work is tendered through the district administration at government rates with slow payment cycles but large volumes. Corporate work from the technology campuses buys at Bengaluru benchmarks because the procurement sits in Bengaluru, which makes it the most attractive segment; heritage weddings pay a premium for careful, damage-free handling. Dasara — Nada Habba — runs ten days across late September and October, culminating in the Jamboo Savari procession and the Bannimantap torchlight parade, and absorbs effectively all staging, barricading, lighting and generator capacity in the district for a month either side. The Mysuru literature and classical festivals take winter dates, Ugadi and Varamahalakshmi shape wedding timing, and the technology campuses schedule offsites in the dry January–March stretch — so we quote within 24 hours and hold dates first-come.

Broadcast & Multi-Camera for Mysuru’s biggest events

Multi-camera production is a disciplined signal chain before it is a creative one. Cameras are genlocked to a common reference — tri-level sync for HD and UHD — so that every source is on the same clock and a cut between them is clean rather than a frame of glitch. Signals run on 12G-SDI over coax for short distances and on SMPTE fibre or triax for long camera positions, with camera control units allowing a vision engineer to shade iris, black level and colour matrix remotely from a rack position. That shading is what makes six cameras look like one camera from six angles, which is the difference between a multi-camera production and six separate recordings.

The room sets the camera plan: riser positions for long lenses, pit space for handhelds, jib clearance and whether the lighting rig will allow a usable exposure. In Mysuru that plays out at venues like Mysore Palace, Radisson Blu Plaza Mysore, Lalitha Mahal Palace, and across Vijayanagar, Jayalakshmipuram, Hebbal, Kuvempunagar.

Camera positions are planned against the show, not the room. A typical award night runs a wide lock-off, two long-lens cameras on a riser at the back for presenter close-ups, a handheld or Steadicam in the pit for the walk-up, a jib for movement and reveals, and PTZ units in positions no operator can occupy. Everything is cut live by a director on a switcher — Ross, Blackmagic ATEM Constellation or a Sony — with the camera operators on intercom receiving frame instructions. A talkback system from Riedel or Clear-Com is non-negotiable: a multi-camera production without reliable comms is just hopeful.

Local conditions

Producing multi-camera broadcast in Mysuru

Weather & the rig

Cameras, lenses and fibre connectors are the equipment least tolerant of moisture and dust, and condensation on a lens moving between a cold control room and a humid outdoor pit costs minutes of show time. At around 760 m on the Deccan plateau, Mysuru has the gentlest climate in this set — rarely above 36°C even in April, with cool 16–18°C winter nights. The catch is the rain: the south-west monsoon from June to September and a secondary north-east spell in October–November mean Dasara itself routinely runs under showers, so every outdoor build in the festival window needs weather cover engineered in rather than added later. Monsoon humidity is high enough to matter for stored optics and for outdoor LED cabinet sealing. June–September is the main monsoon and October carries north-east showers that regularly interrupt Dasara. The reliable dry stretch is December to March; September–October is workable only with a committed wet-weather plan.

Power & redundancy

A broadcast chain needs clean, continuous power on its own distribution, because a momentary dip takes down cameras, CCUs, the switcher and the recording all at once. CESC supply in Mysuru is among the steadier distribution networks in Karnataka and the city invests in reliability ahead of Dasara. Hotel sanctioned loads are decent for the city's size, but palace and civic heritage venues release almost nothing for event use, so generators sited well away from the monument are the norm — and during Dasara the municipal load for the illumination itself takes priority, which is worth confirming before planning a mains tie-in.

Permits & noise rules

Filming brings its own requirements — venue filming rights, audience consent notices, and clearances for any aerial or drone-mounted camera position. Dasara work routes through the Deputy Commissioner's Dasara committee and the Mysuru City Corporation, with the palace itself under its board's control and heritage conditions on any structure, fixing or heat source near the building. Mysuru City Police license assembly and manage the procession route. The Karnataka noise rules and the 10 pm limit apply, with tighter practical restraint in the Nazarbad and palace-adjacent residential areas. Drone flights over the palace and procession are generally refused on security grounds during the festival and need DGCA plus district clearance at any other time.

Load-in & access

Camera positions need cable routes that cross audience areas and a control room position with sightline and comms, so the cabling plan has to be agreed before seating is set. The city is easy to reach on the Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway, but the heritage core is the problem: Sayyaji Rao Road, the palace circumference and the Devaraja Market area are congested all day and closed off entirely during Dasara, so festival builds happen in police-allotted night windows with vehicles cleared before dawn. The palace forecourt takes no vehicles at all beyond the gates, which makes every heavy case a trolley job.

Season & booking

Dasara — Nada Habba — runs ten days across late September and October, culminating in the Jamboo Savari procession and the Bannimantap torchlight parade, and absorbs effectively all staging, barricading, lighting and generator capacity in the district for a month either side. The Mysuru literature and classical festivals take winter dates, Ugadi and Varamahalakshmi shape wedding timing, and the technology campuses schedule offsites in the dry January–March stretch. Peak demand runs Sep–Feb.

Crew & dispatch

Run out of our Bengaluru depot, 145 km on the Mysuru expressway at roughly two and a half hours each way, which makes same-day crew rotation practical; for Dasara we pre-position inventory in Mysuru weeks ahead because road and storage access vanish once the festival build starts. Load-in support covers Hebbal, Kuvempunagar and the rest of the city.

What it costs here

Two price worlds. Dasara and civic work is tendered through the district administration at government rates with slow payment cycles but large volumes. Corporate work from the technology campuses buys at Bengaluru benchmarks because the procurement sits in Bengaluru, which makes it the most attractive segment; heritage weddings pay a premium for careful, damage-free handling.

Local expectations

Mysuru taste is conservative and heritage-conscious — clients genuinely dislike anything that looks temporary or garish against the architecture, so warm, restrained lighting and concealed structure read as quality here. Carnatic and Bharatanatyam programming expects acoustically honest reinforcement and accurate stage monitoring, Kannada content must be correctly typeset, and Dasara presentations are watched by a civic audience with firm opinions about how the palace should look.

What happens to the signal afterwards shapes the whole build. If the show feeds IMAG screens, the programme cut must be clean and the switcher has to supply separate outputs for the screens, the stream and the record. If it feeds a broadcaster, their delivery specification governs frame rate, colour space, loudness and the clean feed they require without graphics. If the output is a post-event film, we record isolated camera feeds — ISOs — alongside the programme cut, because an editor with six ISOs can build something the live cut never could. Same-day highlight edits run off a shuttle drive to an on-site edit position while the show is still in progress.

Venues

Where we work in Mysuru

VenueCapacityProduction note
Mysore PalaceThousands across the forecourt and surrounding grounds in a Dasara layoutA protected heritage monument under the palace board, famous for an illumination scheme of nearly a lakh bulbs — no fixings anywhere, structures held well off the facade, and your lighting design has to coexist with a house illumination you cannot switch off.
Radisson Blu Plaza MysoreAround 1,000 in the ballroom, 1,600 with lawnThe most practical large indoor option, with a usable dock, but the ballroom grid is conference-rated and the property's residential neighbours make late-night outdoor sound a problem.
Lalitha Mahal Palace500–900 across the hall and terracesA state-run heritage hotel with a grand central hall whose marble and plaster surfaces make it acoustically brutal; the sweeping entrance staircase is the only practical route in, so case sizes have to be planned around it.
Jaganmohan Palace and the Town Hall precinct600–1,500 seated or standingHeritage civic buildings where temporary structures need both corporation and heritage-cell clearance, and vehicle access is through congested Sayyaji Rao Road.
Bannimantap and the Dasara procession groundsTens of thousands along the route and at the torchlight parade groundPublic ground used under district-administration control during Dasara, with police-dictated barricading lines, elephant movement corridors to keep clear, and cable routes that must survive crowd and animal traffic.

Crew

Who turns up on show day

  • Director

Calls the cut live from the running order, gives frame instructions to operators and decides what the audience sees at every moment.

  • Vision engineer

Shades every camera from the rack so six sources match, and owns genlock, colour and signal integrity across the chain.

  • Camera operators

Hold and move shots to the director's call, anticipate the action rather than chase it, and protect the frame through a cut.

  • Jib and specialist operators

Deliver the movement and reveal shots — jib, Steadicam, dolly — that give a production its production value.

  • Replay operator

Marks and plays back moments for IMAG or broadcast, working a few seconds behind live with the director.

  • On-site editor

Pulls selects off shuttle drives during the show and delivers a highlight cut the same night.

What you receive

  • Camera plan drawing with every position and lens package
  • Signal flow and output map including genlock distribution
  • Programme cut recording at full quality
  • Isolated camera recordings for every position
  • Clean feed without graphics where a broadcaster requires it
  • Same-day highlight edit where contracted
  • Verified media offload report with checksums before any card is reused

Risk control

What goes wrong, and how we stop it

  • What can go wrong

The post team receives only the programme cut and cannot build the film the client expected.

    How we prevent it

Every camera records an isolated feed as standard, and the delivery specification — including ISOs, clean feed and audio stems — is confirmed in writing at T-2 weeks.

  • What can go wrong

Media cards are cleared before the offload is verified and footage is lost irrecoverably.

    How we prevent it

Offload is checksummed and verified against the source before any card is reformatted, with a second copy on separate media before the trucks leave.

  • What can go wrong

Stage lighting is designed for the room and leaves presenters too contrasty to shade usably.

    How we prevent it

Key levels and colour temperature are agreed with the lighting designer during design and verified under camera at rehearsal, with the rig balanced for camera.

  • What can go wrong

Cameras are not genlocked and every cut shows a frame of tearing on the IMAG screens.

    How we prevent it

Tri-level sync is distributed to every source and verified at the switcher during the build, because the fault is invisible on a single camera and obvious on every cut.

Honest comparison

Is this the right choice for your event?

  • Hiring an OB van instead of a flypack control position
    Our verdict

An OB van is faster to deploy and purpose-built, and right for sport and large televised productions. A flypack built into a control room is cheaper, fits venues a van cannot park at, and is more than adequate up to eight or ten cameras.

  • A single-camera record instead of a multi-camera production
    Our verdict

A well-operated single camera with good audio is a perfectly respectable record of a conference and costs a fraction. It cannot serve IMAG, cannot cut to a reaction, and gives an editor nothing to work with — so it is a record, not a production.

  • PTZ cameras instead of manned positions
    Our verdict

PTZ units are excellent in positions no operator can occupy and have become genuinely good. They still cannot anticipate action the way an operator does, and a show cut entirely from PTZs looks subtly late throughout. Mix them in; do not build on them alone.
