Multi-Camera Broadcast in Ajmer
Ajmer is two event markets under one postcode: the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, whose Urs and weekly pilgrim flow drive devotional and institutional work, and Pushkar 11 km over the Nag Pahar ridge, where a cluster of resorts has turned the Camel Fair town into Rajasthan's value destination-wedding alternative to Jaipur and Jodhpur. Prime AV Solutions supplies the broadcast & multi-camera behind those events — designed on paper, proven in rehearsal and run by our own crew.

Key takeaway
Broadcast & Multi-Camera for Ajmer’s biggest events
Multi-camera production is a disciplined signal chain before it is a creative one. Cameras are genlocked to a common reference — tri-level sync for HD and UHD — so that every source is on the same clock and a cut between them is clean rather than a frame of glitch. Signals run on 12G-SDI over coax for short distances and on SMPTE fibre or triax for long camera positions, with camera control units allowing a vision engineer to shade iris, black level and colour matrix remotely from a rack position. That shading is what makes six cameras look like one camera from six angles, which is the difference between a multi-camera production and six separate recordings.
The room sets the camera plan: riser positions for long lenses, pit space for handhelds, jib clearance and whether the lighting rig will allow a usable exposure. In Ajmer that plays out at venues like Pushkar Fair Grounds, Ananta Pushkar, Mansingh Palace, and across Vaishali Nagar, Civil Lines, Pushkar, Kishangarh.
Camera positions are planned against the show, not the room. A typical award night runs a wide lock-off, two long-lens cameras on a riser at the back for presenter close-ups, a handheld or Steadicam in the pit for the walk-up, a jib for movement and reveals, and PTZ units in positions no operator can occupy. Everything is cut live by a director on a switcher — Ross, Blackmagic ATEM Constellation or a Sony — with the camera operators on intercom receiving frame instructions. A talkback system from Riedel or Clear-Com is non-negotiable: a multi-camera production without reliable comms is just hopeful.

Local conditions
Producing multi-camera broadcast in Ajmer
Weather & the rig
Cameras, lenses and fibre connectors are the equipment least tolerant of moisture and dust, and condensation on a lens moving between a cold control room and a humid outdoor pit costs minutes of show time. Semi-arid Aravalli country means an extreme swing: Apr–Jun runs to 42°C with dust-storm risk that materialises in twenty minutes, while Dec–Jan nights in the Pushkar valley fall to 4–6°C with morning fog over the lake. That cold is a design constraint rather than a comfort footnote — it stiffens cable, shortens wireless-pack battery life and makes an unheated outdoor dinner fail outright. Dust is the year-round enemy of moving-light optics and fan filters here. Apr–Jun heat and dust-storm season; and the Kartik Camel Fair fortnight in November unless the fair is the brief, because every room, vehicle and crew member in the district is committed.
Power & redundancy
A broadcast chain needs clean, continuous power on its own distribution, because a momentary dip takes down cameras, CCUs, the switcher and the recording all at once. AVVNL supply to Ajmer city is workable but the Pushkar valley sits on thin feeders that sag badly when resort occupancy peaks, so resort weddings run DG-primary with the mains as backup. The fair grounds are DG-only with a fuel bowser planned in. Servo stabilisation ahead of LED processors is worth specifying — the voltage swing here is wide enough to matter.
Permits & noise rules
Filming brings its own requirements — venue filming rights, audience consent notices, and clearances for any aerial or drone-mounted camera position. Ajmer Municipal Corporation for the city, Pushkar Nagar Palika for anything in the valley, the district collector and SP for assembly and loudspeaker permission, and RSPCB noise rules with the 10 pm outdoor limit. The Dargah Committee's authority governs the Dargah Bazaar precinct and its lanes. The decisive constraint in Pushkar is that it is a sacred town — alcohol and meat are prohibited within municipal limits, which rules out the standard destination-wedding bar format and pushes the celebration side to venues outside the limit. Kishangarh airport is 30 km away, so drone work is possible but needs Digital Sky clearance plus crowd-safety sign-off in fair season.
Load-in & access
Camera positions need cable routes that cross audience areas and a control room position with sightline and comms, so the cabling plan has to be agreed before seating is set. Jaipur is 135 km and about 2.5 hours on NH-48, and that is the realistic source for trucks, LED and crew depth. The sting is the last 11 km: the old Nag Pahar ghat road into Pushkar has tight bends and a practical length limit, while the bypass takes heavy vehicles but adds time. Inside Pushkar, Sadar Bazaar and the ghat lanes are hand-carry only, and fair-season closures and one-way systems turn a 20-minute run into two hours.
Season & booking
Two immovable fixtures dominate. The Pushkar Camel Fair around Kartik Purnima in November takes the grounds, the resorts, the labour pool and the police bandwidth for a fortnight. The Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti moves with the Islamic calendar into Rajab and brings lakhs of pilgrims into Ajmer, closing the city's hospitality for a week either side. Teej, Gangaur and the Nov–Mar wedding clusters fill the rest. Peak demand runs Oct–Mar.
Crew & dispatch
Light crew and consumables held locally; trucked LED, truss, line array and additional technicians come from Jaipur, 2.5 hours on NH-48, with Jodhpur as a secondary source during Jaipur's own peak weeks. Load-in support covers Vaishali Nagar, Civil Lines and the rest of the city.
What it costs here
Pushkar exists as the value alternative to Jaipur and Udaipur and clients choose it precisely on budget, so the market pays well below Rajasthan's palace-wedding rates while expecting a comparable look. The honest answer is that it works because the venues are cheaper, not the production. Fair-season brand activations are the one genuinely premium line here.
Local expectations
The Rajasthani wedding sequence is long and ritual-dense — mehendi, mahira, toran and pheras each needing their own setup — and the folk element, kalbeliya dancers and langa-manganiyar musicians, is acoustic-first and badly served by a loud front-of-house. Devotional work at the Dargah demands restraint: qawwali reinforcement is about intelligibility, never level. In Pushkar, no-alcohol and vegetarian-only is a licence condition, not a preference to negotiate.

What happens to the signal afterwards shapes the whole build. If the show feeds IMAG screens, the programme cut must be clean and the switcher has to supply separate outputs for the screens, the stream and the record. If it feeds a broadcaster, their delivery specification governs frame rate, colour space, loudness and the clean feed they require without graphics. If the output is a post-event film, we record isolated camera feeds — ISOs — alongside the programme cut, because an editor with six ISOs can build something the live cut never could. Same-day highlight edits run off a shuttle drive to an on-site edit position while the show is still in progress.

Venues
Where we work in Ajmer
| Venue | Capacity | Production note |
|---|---|---|
| Pushkar Fair Grounds | 50,000-plus standing across the mela ground | Deep soft sand administered by the district and the Pushkar municipality, with no permanent power or hard-standing — every tower sits on a ply raft, every truck needs matting, and dust suppression is a continuous job rather than a setup task. |
| Ananta Pushkar | Up to 1,000 across lawns and banquet space | Built into the Aravalli slope, so the lawns are terraced at different levels and a single continuous truss run rarely works; the approach is a narrow resort road where a 32-ft trailer has to break bulk, and the DG compound sits far enough out that cable runs are long. |
| Mansingh Palace | Up to 700 across hall and Ana Sagar-facing terrace | The lakeside position gives the view clients want and a damp evening breeze off Ana Sagar they do not; the terrace has limited point-load capacity and the city-side approach is congested enough that night working is the only realistic window. |
| The Westin Pushkar Resort & Spa | Up to 1,200 across ballroom and lawns | The largest conditioned indoor space in the Pushkar valley with a usable dock, but lawn builds still face the valley's Dec–Jan night temperature crash and the property's own curfew conditions given the sacred-town setting. |
| Brahma Temple precinct and lake ghats | Ceremonial use only, limited numbers | Pushkar's ghats and temple surrounds are sacred ground with hard conditions — no leather, no alcohol, no amplified entertainment and in practice no equipment on the steps; ceremonies here are acoustic or very lightly reinforced. |
Crew
Who turns up on show day
- Director
Calls the cut live from the running order, gives frame instructions to operators and decides what the audience sees at every moment.
- Vision engineer
Shades every camera from the rack so six sources match, and owns genlock, colour and signal integrity across the chain.
- Camera operators
Hold and move shots to the director's call, anticipate the action rather than chase it, and protect the frame through a cut.
- Jib and specialist operators
Deliver the movement and reveal shots — jib, Steadicam, dolly — that give a production its production value.
- Replay operator
Marks and plays back moments for IMAG or broadcast, working a few seconds behind live with the director.
- On-site editor
Pulls selects off shuttle drives during the show and delivers a highlight cut the same night.

Risk control
What goes wrong, and how we stop it
What can go wrong
How we prevent it
- What can go wrong
Six cameras each have a different colour balance and the cut looks like six different events.
How we prevent itEvery camera is shaded from the rack by a vision engineer under the actual stage lighting, and the match is re-checked after any significant lighting change.
- What can go wrong
The director loses contact with a camera operator at the critical moment.
How we prevent itA proper intercom system with per-position talkback and a tested backup channel, plus wired comms on fixed positions rather than relying on wireless packs throughout.
- What can go wrong
The post team receives only the programme cut and cannot build the film the client expected.
How we prevent itEvery camera records an isolated feed as standard, and the delivery specification — including ISOs, clean feed and audio stems — is confirmed in writing at T-2 weeks.
- What can go wrong
Media cards are cleared before the offload is verified and footage is lost irrecoverably.
How we prevent itOffload is checksummed and verified against the source before any card is reformatted, with a second copy on separate media before the trucks leave.
Honest comparison
Is this the right choice for your event?
- Hiring an OB van instead of a flypack control positionOur verdict
An OB van is faster to deploy and purpose-built, and right for sport and large televised productions. A flypack built into a control room is cheaper, fits venues a van cannot park at, and is more than adequate up to eight or ten cameras.
- A single-camera record instead of a multi-camera productionOur verdict
A well-operated single camera with good audio is a perfectly respectable record of a conference and costs a fraction. It cannot serve IMAG, cannot cut to a reaction, and gives an editor nothing to work with — so it is a record, not a production.
- PTZ cameras instead of manned positionsOur verdict
PTZ units are excellent in positions no operator can occupy and have become genuinely good. They still cannot anticipate action the way an operator does, and a show cut entirely from PTZs looks subtly late throughout. Mix them in; do not build on them alone.
